The OLSS community garden was a donation from the Sierra Club of Southern Maryland. A fence was added by Jim Oster in 2022 to keep the critters out. Extra soil was donated J. Calvin Woods. In 2023 grades 3, 4 and 5 have planted many vegetables in the garden including arugula, peas, lettuce, spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and peppers. We need volunteers to come out to water and weed the garden every week so we can have a successful harvest. We plan to enjoy some of our harvest in the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classrooms. Over the summer we plan to donate the vegetables to The Mission on Solomons Island.

The Gardening Angels plan and maintain the flower beds in the School and Church complex. We work with students to celebrate Earth Day by having each student do some planting. Throughout the summer, we weed, edge, water, and mulch as needed. Generally we meet on Tuesday mornings from 10am until noon and rotate among the various areas. If a potential volunteer would like to work evenings or weekends, a particular bed can be assigned. All are welcome!
