We understand the demands of “life” can sometime take precedence over Religious Education (Parish Youth Catechesis - PYC). To respect both family priorities and the selflessness of our parish volunteer catechists, please review the components of Our Lady Star of the Sea’s Parish Youth Catechesis Program and Sacramental Preparation Program will fit your Family’s schedule and needs.
Parish Youth Catechesis (Grades PreK-8th, OCIC and Sacramental Prep)
- All classes are weekly in-person. All PYC students will have approximately 32 hours of instructional time. That is less than a 40-hour work week, attendance is important.
- Children preparing for the sacraments will have additional days of reflection and workshops to attend. This will be laid out in the Parent Meetings.
Candidates for Confirmation
- Children who are parishioners of Our Lady Star of the Sea (OLSS) and additionally attend Father Andrew White, St. John’s or any other catholic school yet desire to be confirmed within their parish (OLSS) will need to register and complete requirements within the parish program components.
- Both PYC and all catholic school students Parents will attend the scheduled 5 Family Catechesis the 1st Sunday of the Month (dates provided)
- Catholic School Students have formation during school hours and are expected to complete the following:
- Both PYC and OLSS School Students choose from one of two parish events to attend:
- OLSS Summer Camp
- Mount 2000 High School Retreat | Confirmation Track
- Mass Attendance
- Confirmation Reflection Days (November | May)
- Confirmation Rehearsal

For by the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are bound more perfectly to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are as true witnesses of Christ more strictly obliged, as true witnesses of Christ, to spread and defend the faith by word and deed ( Catechism of the Catholic Church 1285). -

This form is required to be completed by the Sponsor and signed by their Pastor. Typically, each Parish has their own form or process so it's advised that the Sponsor call their Parish Office.
